More than 90,000 views since 2013. Fort Lincoln Has A Voice. Blog Stats 2013-2017

When I moved back to Fort Lincoln in 2013 I grew incredibly frustrated on the lack of coverage, engagement, and updates with community development.   Even more concerning was the pace and amount of development which had no input from most existing and the majority of new residents.  Today, we not only reach our community but communities across the world in 123 countries with over 90,000 views since 2013. While we still have a long way to go, I just wanted to take a moment to reflect on where we started and where we are headed.  Part of what will keep us relevant is our ability to be informed residents and I will continuously strive to allow  to be a platform where residents can get information regarding activity in their community especially as it relates to Fort Lincoln.  This is not an opinion blog, although sometimes it gets injected  but it is simply a conduit of information for the community to consider and act upon.

Where do we go from here?

I now need input from you.  What  other types of news and updates would you like to see?  Is it activity from other developments and communities, more information on meetings, TED Talk info, or more frequent post.  Provide me your feedback and I will work with you to get us the information we need.  Thanks for the support and I look forward to an exciting 2017!

  1. Thanks so much for all you do!! If it weren’t for the retail and housing development information you provide, I would probably only know what is reported on the news about my own Fort Lincoln neighborhood. I particularly appreciate the advanced notices you post of upcoming plans, activities/events, meetings, etc. and even your editorials, which are always very informative and thought provoking. The photos you include are also great. Since you asked, I would be interested in seeing crime reports (retail and residential) within and around our community. Currently, I subscribe to the police blog to learn about them, but it covers a larger area of NE, which overwhelms my in-box with about 40 emails a day. However, learning about these activities (such as thefts from vehicles parked at our growing shopping complex-which I never knew) and their frequencies keeps me aware and cautious in my daily travels. Most of these crimes are not news-worthy, but knowing about them happening in our immediate surroundings may be life saving. Also, having a platform that reports and monitors them (such as for frequencies, locations, similarities, etc.), if possible, would enable us to protect ourselves in real time. I’m sure other subscribers to would find this information as useful as I do. I hope you will consider adding this coverage. Please keep up your great work. Your time and efforts for our community family is truly appreciated. Thank you!!

    1. This is fantastic feedback, I will work to provide detailed monthly crime reports from the ANC Meetings. I to will have to decipher the info but will include it none the less! Thanks again.

      1. I don’t know if I want you to put every single incidence because at the end of the day, this is still a big city with big city crimes. However, if you can decipher the information and share trends, that would be great. For instance, if there’s a rash of car break-ins in the parking lot of the Costco, I think that’s important information to share. I don’t think it’s all that important to share one break-in within a year’s timeframe. I’ve been living in Villages at Dakota Crossing since mid 2014 and I’m aware of at least 4 cars that have had their wheels stolen. Is that a trend? I don’t know. I guess you’ll have to make that decision. Also, you may have to be careful with what you share. Whatever you put on this site is permanent. I don’t want outside visitors to the site to get a wrong impression about the area based off a single post. . As I write this, I’m wondering if this is the proper forum for that kind of information. I read a lot of other local blogs and I don’t recall ever seeing crime statistics included. I’m sure those areas have their share of crime. So you may to think about it before getting into the business of sharing crime statistics on here.

I actually love your blog. My only complaint is that you’re not consistent enough in adding information. I don’t mean you need to add something everyday but try not to go so long without adding something. However, you have been on a roll this week.

      2. I’m with you, I’m working on frequency, it depends on what’s happening at work, I’m going to start with (once)weekly updates but if info becomes available I’ll make the additional post. I don’t want to ever give the impression of daily posts, I work very long hours. I recommend subscribing that way you can get them as they are made. As far as crime stats I’m not worrying about perception I’m more concerned with safety. I’ll present it in a way that doesn’t defame the community but deliver the facts. Thanks for the feed back!

  2. Personally, I appreciate whenever you write a post because I understand how demanding work can be. Plus, I am sure there isn’t Ft. Lincoln news everyday or even every week so I don’t expect you to write something with regularity (unless you want to). So, as a subscriber (to your blog), I know I will see info in my in-box when you have something to share. I’m thankful that you also dedicate yourself as our Commissioner and still have time and energy to maintain a “volunteer” informative blog for our community. As far as the crime stats are concerned, sorry if I was not clear. I was suggesting exactly what dakota C mentioned, just events occurring in Fort Lincoln or around our perimeter, like at the gas stations, that may affect our safety. Dakota C’s theft info helps your blog readers be aware and mindful. I believe we are all on the same page about this. As far as how the info is presented, I trust that you will sort and present the relevant data, and any related info, in a manner that will best serve our community. Ft. Lincoln New Towne has literally doubled in size since I moved here in the 1980s that your blog is an excellent medium to keep us all connected and informed. Since the crime info you may write about is public info anyway that I would have also seen on the police blog I subscribe to, I’m sure no outside visitors to the site will get a wrong impression. If anything, I think they will appreciate a community blog that is balanced with good and bad happenings to keep its residents and guests informed and safe.
