I have been watching the very slow renovation for the past few months of this former Wendy’s Restaurant from years ago and alas they have posted the sign for what’s to come, Dolphin’s Fish & Chicken. Naturally, the use of the words Dolphin and Chicken in the same sentence intrigued me ( the play on words that is, I don’t eat Dolphin FYI). Either way, after a little research I was not able to find a website, in fact, the only mentions were on yelp, one in Englewood Chicago that recently closed, another in Michigan. So I’m guessing this place should easy on the wallet and hopefully offer some healthy choices. All in all, it is still a welcomed addition to that corner of Bladensburg Road. I reached out to the Michigan restaurant and the employee there wasn’t sure about the DC Restaurant, I will see if I can reach the owner for more details!
My husband and I were happy to see the Dolphins Fish & Chicken restaurant finally open for business. But unfortunately, the fare proved to be very disappointing. The fried chicken was seasoned well, crispy and worth the trip. The ocean perch was seasoned and fried in the same basket with the chicken. However, the 3 piece fish dinner had 3 fish portions each were slightly larger than a fish stick, the mandatory cole slaw that came with the dinners measured one tablespoonful each, and one of the bread slices was the heel end. The nerve! The french fry portions were equal to a McDonald’s $1 menu selection. For this we paid $6.99 each; overpriced for the offerings. We also ordered a side of potato salad which was awful. The potatoes were under cooked, and tasted like it was dipped from a cardboard box. That was a wasted $2.99. In conclusion, we.re not motivated to go back again. If you’re looking for good fired fish, and more bang for your buck, head for Giant’s hot deli bar.
Thanks for the amazing feed back! I’m sure the owner would be interested to know how they are fairing thus far. I’ll be sure to forward this on.
Linda – you just saved me a trip. I would’ve went there just to see if they actually had dolphin on the menu. I just assumed that was one of those “endangered ” species. LOL
Thanks,
